30 days of august

Ms. Imler said that I should start a blog about food... at first i said "nah, i wouldn't have much to blog about!" But come to think of it, why not?! i LOVE food, i love cooking it and EATing it!

So.... august begins with food...

Pastrami Sandwich at Empire with my couchsurfer Rick.
As Rick munched on his Pastrami Sandwich,
i was greeted by a juicy pesto burger...

I think the best part about the burger, wasn't just that it was nice and juicy (medium well, is how i like it), but the side of "chelsea" fries that it comes with... just to top it off, a generous "dallop" of parmesan cheese.... yummmmo!

This was the second time coming to "Empire Dinner " the first time was last winter, with the gang and then, the brunch was awesomely delicious!

The service there is excellent and their waitress/waiters are super diligent about re-filling the coffee :)

The next morning, we're having brunch at a local joint chez moi. Izocan Bistro was the restaurant of our choice :) They had a great $10 brunch menu that included a coffee, tea, or fresh squeeezed orange juice! Thanks for the suggestion Sandra!! I was joined by Lily, Sandra and Jenna!

Jenna was visiting from California and it was so great to share a meal with her!! :) Jenna also has a SUPER amazing food blog :) excellent!

I had <---- Huevos Rancheros: Sunnyside up egg with Chrispy tortilla and Salsa Fresca. Lily had ----->
(sorry about the blurry picture!)
Baked eggs with Chorizo, Poblano and mushrooms

I forget who's order this was, (i think Sandra's) she had Huevos Ahogados: Poached eggs in tomatillo broth with cactus and epozote! yummm! deliciousness!

I know it's strange, but i don't often go up pass 97th. But i'm really glad that i've got several friends who live above my street who often suggest delicious little places to try! Just today, one of my colleagues suggested "Joy burger bar" on 100th. Supposedly has AWESOME burgers :)

Let's see, what else happened in August? food wise, of course :)

For our friend Wil's birthday,
we went for brunch at
Roebling Tea Room, in Williamsburg.

Several people had this delicious dish!
Baked cheddar eggs with
apple butter and grits.

mmmm.... yours truly had Egg, cheese and Bacon, served with slice apples. It was absolutely simple and delicious! but it would hav been better if the plate didn't look so sad and empty! the few slices of apples were really a great combo, but it would have been good with another side of something... something like a sauce or a yogurt of some sort.... hmmm

Okay... Zach had ----> not quite sure what it was called
but it was two eggs, sunny side up, with potato and beats. hmmm....

Last but not least, Lily had cheese roll on white.

Pretty freakin' delicious! the best part is that it had mashed potatoes inside! MASHED potatoes!! with a side of "fries" and sliced pickles... yummo!

Brunch is such a magical and amazing time of the weekend. It's just so wonderful! Who ever invented it is brilliant! According to wiki, the concept of "brunch" was invented around 1896 and originated as a "student slang." I guess as far as language and the evolution of new words and phrases is concerned students are in the front-lines of language development!

Sunday morning... another perfect day for a
BRUNCH session :) where to today?
One of Susan's colleague suggested a place
in the village, Paprika - Cucina Italiana.

It was such a great deal! They had a variety of different brunch goods.. (all delicious and amazing). For a fixed price of $12, which included, a coffee, tea, a mimosa or a bellini! yummmo!

I had the eggs benedict with holondaise sauce with the most delicious salad ever! i think it just had pepper and vinegar on it, but it was delicious! oh... and there was bacon :) which makes everything DELICIOUS!

I was definitely very impressed by Paprika, the portions, the freshness and the presentation were all pretttttty freakin' fantastic :)

Oh... so this was their "specialty," Green eggs with salsa fresca on top of polenta... OMG delicious! it's green cuz of the pesto (fresh and just so good!) and the fresh tomatoes and onions definitely added something special to the dish... (sorry about the blurry picture!)

It was me, lily, susan and my couchsurfer stephan, from germany who is on his way to upstate for a semester of study abroad!

Here's what lily and stephan had :)

a delicious apple pancakes, with heaps of fresh fruits, so healthy and delicious!

Lily had an omelette, which also looked very plumply!

Can't wait to try more deliciousness!

Thank god for food!
